Architect/Engineering Manager II
Job Description:
The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking an Area Traffic Engineer, position number #20103, for Northwestern Regional Operations.
The position will: Conduct and supervise traditional and special traffic engineering studies in the Northwestern Operations Region, addressing roadway safety and operation problems that affect motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. Primary focus area will be Culpeper and Warrenton Residencies within Culpeper Construction District. Engineer solutions to improve traffic safety, capacity and other traffic issues with a proactive and systematic approach. Manage the secondary traffic count program. Participate in and coordinate the staff's involvement in the concurrent engineering process for roadway and bridge construction projects within Culpeper District, ensuring traffic engineering, operational and safety issues and items are addressed. Administer traffic engineering reviews of land development projects and proposals within Culpeper District. Provide assistance to Assistant Regional Traffic Engineer in administration of various highway safety improvement programs and administration of the work unit. Hiring salary is $55,000 - $109,000 (Salary negotiable based on training and experience). This position will remain open until filled.

Minimum Qualifications:
-P.E. License required.
-Prior management experience required to include but not limited to: supervising/developing staff; participating in, coordinating, and managing projects to include ensuring projects are delivered on-time and within budget.
-Knowledge of civil and traffic engineering principles and practices as related to highway design and operation.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Working knowledge of Highway Capacity Software, and other traffic simulation optimization modeling software.
-Demonstrated analytical skills required to plan, coordinate, and complete multiple assignments with the ability to organize and analyze data, draw conclusions, develop recommended improvement alternatives, and cost estimates.
-Experience in conducting traffic engineering analyses preferred.
-BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent related education, experience, and training.

Special Requirements:
-Valid driver's license required.
-Position requires completion of Statement of Economic Interest as condition of employment.
-Successful DMV background check required.

Engineer - Senior
Chesterfield County’s Transportation Department is seeking an Engineer to handle project management for capital improvement, state/federally funded road improvement projects. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field and 3 years experience in project management, design and/or construction of transportation projects; or an equivalent combination. EIT or PE desired. This person will manage the preliminary engineering, environmental, right-of-way, utility relocation and construction phases of road projects. Duties include reviewing design plans for compliance with specifications and determination of constructability; discussing proposed improvements with property owners; overseeing the acquisition of right-of-way; reviewing bid documents and resolving construction conflicts; managing the project budget and schedule. Strong oral/written communication and public relations skills necessary. This position requires coordination with engineering consultants, VDOT and internal county departments. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more negative points within the past three years or a major violation within the past four years.
